CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Lion Cubs: 3-6yr old Beginners (White Belts) Students are introduced to basic philosophy and movement of S.K.Y. through circuits, games, stories & fun. Developing self-esteem, focus, positive peer interactions, body awareness & joy of movement prepares students to begin training.
Lions: 5-10yr old Beginners (White\Purple Belts) Age appropriate games, circuits, exercises, discussions & projects are utilized to teach movement and philosophy of S.K.Y in a fun filled class. Students begin to progress through the ranking system at their own pace. Focus is on developing respect for self & others, self-awareness, diligence and joy of movement.
Dragons: 6yrs + Intermediate (Blue Belts +) Appropriate for advanced beginners and intermediate students who have a basic understanding of S.K.Y movement and philosophy. Students are challenged to continue exploring old material, while learning new information and developing leadership skills.
Peaceful Warriors: 10-18yrs (All Levels) Pre-teens & teens of all levels progress through S.K.Y curriculum at their own pace. Music, age appropriate games, exercises and discussions enhance the skills taught. Students in this class are offered opportunities for leadership and assistant teaching.
GirlPower: Girls 9-17yrs (All Levels) Girls progress through S.K.Y curriculum at their own pace, while drawing strength from a strong female community. Emphasis on empowerment, self-defense and discussions of topics relevant to girls this age (body image, boundary setting, media, peer pressure...)
Yoga for Trauma Recovery: Girls 9-16yrs (All) Confidential group for pre-teen & teen girls who have experienced any kind of trauma, including; abuse, assault, neglect, bullying, out of home placement, death of loved one, injury or illness.
Fun and supportive environment uses movement, breathing and philosophy of yoga, as well as elements of martial arts to provide girls with tools to heal and grow. Meditation, games, discussions, journaling, and art projects are utilized to promote self-esteem, self-awareness, positive body image, relaxation techniques, reclamation of power, and understanding of individual experience. Connecting with peers creates a sense of strength through community and allows girls to realize they are not alone.
